General Statement/ Organizational Responsibilities
This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:
Environmental Sampling Field Technician ($21.26 - $29.76 Hourly)
Performs technical in-office and field work in support of Metro’s regulatory, annual charge and special project sampling programs and Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) implementation. Works under the direction of the Environmental Sampling Supervisor.
Environmental Sampling Field Specialist ($25.71 - $36.02 Hourly)
Performs technical in-office and field work in support of Metro’s regulatory, annual charge and special project sampling programs and Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) implementation. Reports to the Environmental Sampling Supervisor.

Qualifications
Environmental Sampling Field Technician
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from High School and either one year of college level water quality or science related coursework, six months experience with industrial pretreatment sampling, wastewater sampling, water sampling, experience as a collection systems technician operator, or experience working in a laboratory environment. Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships. Valid Driver’s License.
Environmental Sampling Field Specialist
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from High School and one (1) year of college-level water quality or science related coursework or equivalent experience Direct knowledge and experience collecting wastewater samples in accordance with 40 CFR part 136. Good written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work in a team environment and the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships. Valid Driver’s License.
Equivalency
Equivalency equals two years of directly related professional experience for every year of education not completed. The stated experience requirement is in addition to any experience used to meet the education equivalency.
Desired Qualifications
Associates Degree with major coursework in chemistry, biology, environmental science, water quality management, or related field.
Working Conditions
Work Environment
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; wet or humid conditions (non-weather); fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; and risk of radiation more than 2/3 of the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear more than 2/3 of the time. The employee is required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms more than 2/3 of the time. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds more than 2/3 of the time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
